ROCHESTER -Dr. Lowell F.A. Peterson, 85, died on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Charter House in Rochester. Lowell was born in Evanston, IL on March 29, 1927 to Frederick G.W. and Norma (Johnson) Peterson.He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a chief medical officer for nine ships during the Korean War.Lowell married Jean Palmgard on December 6, 1952 in Ely, MN.He worked for Mayo as an Orthopedic Surgeon and Visiting Professor from 1954-1993.Lowell will be remembered as a great surgeon, teacher, mentor, and friend.More importantly to Lowell, he will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Lowell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean; four children, Heather (Tom) Haugrud, of Stillwater, MN, Carol Rodgers, of Western Springs, IL, Susan (Michael) Suby, of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Jane Peterson, of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren, Bryn (Chelsea) Haugrud, of Woodbury, MN, Kari (Eric) Griffin, of St. Paul, MN, Laura Rodgers, of Ashford, WA, Sarah Rodgers, of Chicago, IL, Haley Suby, of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Carl Suby, of Highlands Ranch, CO; and two great grandchildren, Annika and Makayla Haugrud. Lowell is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Melvin and Wendell Peterson. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 1, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church,512 3rd Street SW with Rev. Jay Rowland officiating.
