Dr. Gerald R. Holcomb, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 9th, 2014, at Charter House in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Holcomb was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on June 4th, 1932, to Claude and Evelyn Holcomb. He was married for 59 years to his loving wife, Susan, and they were blessed with three children and seven grandchildren. Dr. Holcomb was a 1953 graduate of Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, and served on their Board of Trustees for 34 years.He earned his Doctor of Medicine at University of Nebraska College of Medicine, in Omaha.After practicing family medicine in Hastings, Nebraska, and Caldwell, Idaho, he and his family moved to Rochester where Dr. Holcomb completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology at Mayo Clinic. He served as a consultant on staff at the Mayo Clinic for 19 years. Among Jerry's many and varied interests were the historic expedition of Lewis and Clark, coin collecting, poetry, classical music, and composing limericks.He especially loved vacationing at his rustic mountain cabin in Paradise Valley, Montana. He is survived by his wife, Susan; sister Shirley Landers of Lewes, Delaware; his children, Brian (Karen) of Eden Prairie, Claudia Stone (Brad) of Old Frontenac, and Laura Wold (Phil) of Sheridan, Wyoming; and grandchildren, Dan (Caitlin), Matthew, and Kelly Holcomb; Cameron and Devin Stone; Susie and David Wold. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Jerry's caregivers at Charter House Supportive Care and Assisted Living, and Mayo Hospice for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Rochester, MN on Friday, August 15th, 2014 at 11:00am, followed by a luncheon at the church.
