Dorothy Jacobson

Dorothy M. Jacobson, 93, of Rochester, MN died on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in Grand Meadow, MN. The service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (222 6th Avenue SW) in Rochester with Rev. Nathaniel Schwartz will be officiating. The burial will be in Oakwood East Cemetery. Dorothy was born Dorothy Leah Machel on May 23, 1924, in Chicago, IL to Nathaniel and Adeline (Krause) Machel. She graduated from Taft High School in Norwood Park, IL. Dorothy completed a year at Valparaiso University in Indiana before returning to Chicago to work full time as a secretary for Curtis Publishing and to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, at night. She completed her student teaching at Maine Township High School in Park Ridge, IL and became a full time English Teacher at Maine upon her graduation in June 1952. She went on to earn a Masters Degree in English from Northwestern in 1956. She married Robert B. Jacobson in Evanston, IL in 1956. While raising three children and making her familys home, Dorothy taught Sunday school at Saint Pauls Lutheran Church in Mount Prospect, IL and Trinity Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, IN and was both a Cub Scouts den mother and a Bluebird leader in Indianapolis. She and her husband moved to Rochester to be close to their grandchildren in 1993. Dorothy loved language, literature and libraries. She filled our home and lives with books and stories. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert of Rochester, MN; a son, Robert M. (Renee) of Rochester, MN; a daughter, Kendalle of Chicago, IL; a daughter, Nanette (Daniel) Christinsen of Rochester, MN; and seven beloved grandchildren, including, Seth (Caroline Szczepanski), Alec (Annie Ytterberg), Tess and Elli Jacobson, and Gabrielle, Hayley and Melanie Christinsen.
