Dorothy Hart Mitchell, 101 of Rochester passed away December 16, 2014 at Madonna Meadows.In 2005 she moved to Rochester to be near family. Dorothy was born October 30, 1913 at home in Highland Park, Michigan to Charles and Julia Hart.Both of her parents were University of Michigan graduates.After graduating from Royal Oak High School in Michigan, Dorothy graduated from the University of Michigan in 1936 with a BA in Education.She received a life-time certificate to teach in public schools in Michigan.In 1938 Dorothy received a Master of Arts in education.Dorothy married Daniel Mitchell on February 12, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.Most of their married life they lived in Amherst, N.Y.Her life revolved around family.They were active member s of Amherst Community Church.She was a member of PEO Chapter S.She enjoyed playing bridge with the same group of friends for many years. During retirement years they moved to Sun City, Arizona.They belonged to the Rock Hound Club where they enjoyed hiking and exploring Arizona in their 4 wheel drive vehicle.Dorothy was a docent at their museum.She also volunteered at the Sun Valley Lodge nursing home. Dorothy was an avid nature lover, especially birds, flowers, and rocks.She passed on this love to her future generations of family.Dorothy also loved quilting.She made quilts for the family, Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, and the neo-natal unit at St. Marys Hospital. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Daniel in 1989 after 51 years of marriage; her two younger sisters Julia Guldberg and Mary Louise Hallock, son-in-law Harry Hallock, and her daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and James Denny. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Anne and Franklyn Knox of Rochester; son and daughter-in-law David and Barbara Mitchell of Amherst, NY; brother-in-law Carl Guldberg; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Madonna Meadows and Seasons Hospice for their compassionate care. ACelebration of Life will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Madonna Meadows Chapel in Rochester.
