Dorothy J. Gustine, 81, of Rochester, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at her home. Dorothy was born November 3, 1934 in Preston, MN to Charles E. and Naida C. (Winch) Jerviss. She was a 1952 graduate of Rochester High School. On April 17, 1953, Dorothy married Richard Gustine at the First Methodist Church in Rochester. Dorothy work as a legal secretary for 44 years and retired in 1995. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, volunteered for Seasons Hospice and was a past board member of the Bristol Center Cemetery. Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of the birds, gardening and tending to her flowers, camping, fishing and snowmobiling. She also enjoyed traveling, with one of her favorite destinations being Hawaii and she always looked forward to Sunday at the movies or her monthly breakfast with the Jerviss Jammers. Dorothy was an excellent baker and made the best chocolate chip cookies. She crocheted treasured afghans and was an avid reader. She was a very giving, caring woman, always worried about others and an inspiration to her family. Above all, Dorothy loved her two grandsons, they were her world. Dorothy is survived by her children, Bruce (Pamela) Gustine of Rochester, Sara (Jeffery) Bass of Byron; grandsons, Samuel Lee Bass and Joseph Christian Bass; sister, Darlene Enderson of Rochester and brothers, Charles Eddie Jerviss of Eyota and Thomas Jerviss of Rochester. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brother, Stanley and her parents, Charles and Naida. A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held 11:00AM Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 5th Ave. SW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00PM Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Nancy Wheeler Handlon will be officiating with burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association of Rochester, 3224 6th Ave. NE, Unit A, Rochester, MN 55906 or to Christ United Methodist Church
