Dorothy Volberding, age 98, of Rochester, Minnesota went to her Heavenly Father on January 26, 2012. Her funeral service will be at 11:00am on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dr. James W. Heining officiating.Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm on Sunday, January 29 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Dorothy Schroeder was born in Galatin Valley, Montana on January 4, 1914 to Fred and Lena Schroeder.At the age of one, her parents decided to move back to Nodine, Minnesota.She attended a small country school.In 1931, she came to Rochester to work as a cook for two different doctors in their homes.She married Carl Volberding on November 30, 1945.They built three different homes in the evenings, as this was her husbands trade.At age 52, Dorothy went into the drapery business and closed that shop at the age of 67.After the death of her husband, she moved to Realife where she enjoyed making new friends.She volunteered at RMH for special projects for 25 years.She enjoyed quilting both at church and at Realife to help those in need.She liked to sew, do crafts and needlework.She learned the skill of playing pool for fun at Realife. Dorothy is survived by one son, William (Linda) Volberding of Glen Burnie, Maryland; two sisters, Gertrude Thieke Weist of Chatfield, Minnesota and Babetta Persons Quist of Aurora, Colorado; two grandchildren, Tammy Lynn (Mike) Cierniak of Pasadena, Maryland and William (Jenn)Volberding Jr. of Glen Burnie, MD; two great grandchildren, Alex and Kylee of Glen Burnie, Maryland.Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, a brother and sister. Memorials can be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
