Doris Machin

Doris Gail (McCarron) Machin was born on May 25, 1923, in Durand, Michigan to Joseph and Lydia (Blanche) McCarron. She lived her younger years in Durand and in 1938 her family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from Bay View High School in 1941. She married Raymond Machin Sr. on October 29, 1943. They then relocated to Iowa, where they raised 6 children in and around the small town of New Haven, Iowa. Doris became a homemaker and that entailed many duties. She not only cooked and cleaned, but was an educator, seamstress, chauffer, financial advisor, barber/hairdresser and most importantly, a shoulder to cry on. When she did have idle time, she was passionate about reading and watching mysteries, and working on crossword puzzles which she continued to enjoy until her death. Doris and Ray moved several times due to Ray's job and finally settled in Clarks Grove, Minnesota in 1984. Doris lost her husband in 1994, but remained in Clarks Grove until 2010. At the age of 86 she relocated to an assisted living senior citizen complex in Rochester, Minnesota, where she remained until her death on May 12, 2019. She is survived by 5 children, Raymond Machin Jr. of Wichita, KS, Rebecca (Roger) Wilson of Rochester, MN, Brian (Margot) Machin of Orange Park, FL, David (Susan) Machin of Wichita, KS, and Jeanne (Robert) Hovda of Wabasha, MN; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; daughter, Sue Ellen; granddaughter, Selina; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters. She will rest with her beloved husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. A memorial service for Doris will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901).
