Doris I. Harper, age 93, of Rochester, died on Friday, May 25, 2018, surrounded by her family at the Mayo Clinic Hospital - St. Marys Campus in Rochester. A graveside service will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester, MN. Doris Ilene Bress was born on July 15, 1924, in Worthington, MN, to Jacob and Lena (Dickman) Bress. She graduated from Sheldon High School, in Sheldon, IA. She married Merle B. Harper in 1945. Merle served in the United States Navy. When he returned they lived in Le Mars and Emmetsburg, IA where they owned Harpers Café. Later they moved to Rochester where she worked at Hiller Flooring where she was a bookkeeper. Merle died on October 9, 1977. She retired in 1978. Doris married Milton W. Johnson in May 1985 in Rochester. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, cooking especially cinnamon rolls and chicken noodle soup. Doris adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. She was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. Doris is survived by her husband, Milton of Rochester; children, Roxane (Gary) Nereson of Fergus Falls, Brad (Mary) Harper of Onalaska, WI and Scott Harper of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Ardie, Vione, LaDone and Janey. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Merle; sister, Beverly and brother, Kenneth.
