Doris Meyers, 93, of rural Elgin, MN died on April 3, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Care Center, Lake City, MN where she was a resident for the past three years. Doris Eleanor Koelsch was born on July 16, 1927 to Merton and Jennie Koelsch. She along with her two brothers grew up on their farm near Douglas, MN. Following graduation from Rochester Central High School in 1945, she worked as a desk clerk at the Mayo Clinic blood lab. On September 11, 1947 she and Harold Meyers were married. The couple farmed near Douglas, MN until 1960 when they and their five sons moved to their farm near Potsdam, MN. Doris was a hardworking farm wife who even worked for a time at the canning factory in Plainview, MN. A good cook and baker, she hosted many gatherings in their country kitchen whose walls were decorated with her antique plates, and she entertained in their living room that was filled with shelves holding her tea pot and pitcher collection. She and Harold enjoyed visiting antique stores, and her home displayed their treasures. Her sewing machine was always nearby, ready for mending jeans, making shirts, dolls, stuffed animals and especially ready for making quilt blocks. Doris hand quilted dozens of quilts for her family and friends and one of her quilts was always the prize at the annual church bazaar raffle. Doris had a great love for God and her church, and faithfully served in the Douglas church all her life. In later years she was part of a Tuesday study group at church and a Wednesday Ladies Bible study at the Senior Center. Her kind, caring heart and genuine concern for others made her a friend to so many people and someone with whom you just wanted to talk. Her children and grandchildren especially benefitted from her wisdom an unquenchable spirit. She is survived by her sons: Richard (Kay) of Rochester, MN, Louie (Diane) of Elgin, MN, Randy (Kristen) of Maplewood, MN and Wayne (Brenda) of Elgin, MN; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother, Russell (Dolores) Koelsch of Rochester, MN and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Rodney and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Florence Koelsch. A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901. Burial will be at Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas, MN. Memorials are suggested to the Douglas United Methodist Church in Douglas, MN.
