Donnie Solomon

January 29, 1934 — April 7, 2025

Donnie "Don" Glen Solomon, 91, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully on April 7th surrounded by the love of his family. Born to James and Thursa Solomon on January 29, 1934, in Stephens County, Oklahoma, Don was the youngest of seven children.

After graduating from Corona High School in California, Don proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished 34-year career at IBM, where he held various positions ranging from engineering to management, always bringing dedication and a strong work ethic to everything he did.

In 1977, Don married the love of his life, Irene, and together they built a beautiful life and a loving blended family of five children: Tammy (Judd) Schlotthauer, Jeff (Brenda) Solomon, Scott (Milton Rodriguez) Solomon, Todd (Lisa Hanson) Burt, and Michelle (Craig) Johnson.

Don was a devoted grandfather to Brandon (Casey) Schlotthauer, Nathan (Katie) Schlotthauer, Jacob (Rebecca) Solomon, Michael (Haley) Johnson, Joshua (Hannah) Solomon, Ryan Burt, Ezra (Kayla) Schlotthauer, and Bryan (Gabbi) Johnson. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Remington, Liesl, and Waverly Schlotthauer; Hans and Eliza Schlotthauer; Greta Schlotthauer; Brooklyn and Lincoln Johnson; and soon to arrive Baby Boy Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son (Casey), and two grandsons (Nicholas and Zachary Burt).

Don and Irene shared a passion for travel, especially in their RV. They spent many joyful winters in Florida, walking along the beach and creating cherished memories. He treasured time spent camping with family and valued every opportunity to be surrounded by those he loved.

Above all, Don was a proud and present grandfather and great-grandfather. He never missed a game, recital, or special moment, always showing up with unwavering support and love for his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's many activities.

A true sports enthusiast, Don was particularly fond of NFL football and was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed watching a wide variety of sports and could always be found cheering on his favorite teams.

Don was a remarkable man and will be remembered for his strong values, his deep love for family, and the legacy of kindness, support, and commitment he leaves behind. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Don's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Peace United Church of Christ, 1503 2nd Ave. NE, Rochester, MN with Rev. Paul Bauch officiating.
