Donna Smith Ivins, of Rochester, MN passed away August 6, 2017. She was born October 15, 1916 in Watertown, SD to her parents, Hal and Lila Smith. Donna moved to Rochester with her family at the age of 12, where she completed her schooling. From 1936 to 1941, she served as a medical secretary at the Mayo Clinic to Dr. Louis Brunsting, Hamilton Montgomery, Paul OLeary and William J. Mayo. Donna married John C. Ivins, M.D. at Fort Benning, GA in 1941. They returned to Rochester after WWII, where Dr. Ivins joined the Mayo Clinic staff in Orthopedic Surgery. He preceded her in death, as did her parents, her brother Robert, and a daughter. Donna is survived by her four children, Mrs. Lucinda Larson of Seattle WA; Richard Ivins of San Clemente, CA; Mrs. Margot (Michael) Osborn of Rochester; Laurie Ivins Leaf of Rochester; ten grandchildren and eightgreat-grandchildren.
