Donald R. Wiegert passed away on Sunday, July 7 in Rochester, Minnesota. Don was born on July 6, 1930 to Louis Wiegert and Viola Muske. Don served in the United States Navy after graduating from high school. After his military service, Don obtained a teaching degree from Mankato State College and began his long teaching career in St. Clair, Minnesota.
Don married Margery Brunner on September 9, 1951. Don and Marge had one daughter, Krista. They later moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where Don was an Industrial Arts teacher at Central Junior High and John Adams Middle School. Don and Marge were owners of the Strawberry Patch craft store. After retiring he worked part-time at Flowers by Jerry and Renning's Florist.
Don enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing, and always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan. He enjoyed nothing more than getting together with family and friends. He was a kind-hearted, friendly soul who touched many lives. Don had an incredible memory - It was not uncommon for him to run into an old student or friend and greet them by name.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marge; parents; sister-in-law Rachel Krueger; brother-in-law Don Krueger; and nephew Matthew Krueger.
He is survived by his daughter, Krista; a special lady in his life, Avis Blake; nephews Greg (Cindy) Krueger, Scott (Dawn) Krueger; niece Cathern Hart; and special family friends - Diana Lantz, Bob Schmiesing, and Darlene Bokelman.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW) in Rochester with a visitation held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made out to Disabled American Veterans, Mayo Clinic Hospice, or a charity of choice.
