Donald W. Robinson

ROCHESTER -Donald W. Robinson, 98, died on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center in Grand Meadow. Don was born in Peotone, IL on May 20, 1915 to Lawrence and Susan (Walton) Robinson.They moved to a family farm in Rice County, MN when Don was 2 years old.He proudly served in the U.S. Navy.Don married Lura Bragg on July 3, 1936 in Nashua, IA.He worked for Sander's Bakery, Owatonna Bakery, and Central Bakery, all in Owatonna.Don then bought a bakery in Mapleton, MN for 10 years, before moving to Rochester and establishing Don's Bakery in 1956.In 1964 Don's Bakery was sold and then Don managed Erdman Bakeries until he retired in 1981.He and Lura spent their winters in Arizona.Don was a member of the Rochester Oddfellows and a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester and Desert Chapel in Apache Junction, AZ. Don is survived by his three children, Priscilla Robinson, of Rochester, Hope (Emery) Healy, of Frederic, WI, and Bruce (Nancy) Robinson, of Rochester; five grandchildren, Cheri (Jeff) Moats, Tammi (Dennis) Wiberg, Emery D. (Shelly) Healy, Traci I. (John) Franke, and James D. (Joy) Robinson; 11 great grandchildren, Devin (Holly) Moats, Michael (Andrea) Moats, Erica (Charles) Balcerek, Heather (Ben) Wyatt, Chris (Michelle) Wiberg, Benjamin (Ashley Drown) Wiberg, Aaron (Anita) Healy, Meghan Healy, Luke Franke, Amanda Franke and Ezra Robinson; and seven great-great grandchildren. Don is preceded in death by his wife, Lura; his parents; siblings, Charles, Ellouise, and Margery; and a grandchild, Patti Lynn Healy. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 5th Ave. SW, with Rev. Nancy Wheeler Handlon officiating.Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Memorials can be directed to a charity of your choice.
