Donald Monson

Donald G. Monson (96) died Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Trinity Health Care in Farmington, MN.

Donald was born December 20, 1927 to Gordon and Selma (Swenson) Monson in Red Wing, MN. He graduated from Zumbrota High School then entered the U.S. Army. Upon completing basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas, he joined the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being discharged from the Army, he attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1952. Donald worked alongside his father and brother (Robert) in the Monson Trucking Company.

He met Helen Ann Alrick and they married on March 17, 1962. Donald had the World Travel Bureau, and Anderson's Formal Wear and Wedding World. He was an avid fisherman taking many trips to Canada with his friends and also loved duck hunting.

He was a father and husband who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his two children, Linda (Bill) Brown in Rochester, MN and Chris (Sue) Monson in Shakopee, MN; and his five grandchildren Cara Brown (Drew Jones), Christa (Brett) Bonine, Creighton (Tara) Monson, Callie (Grant) Ryan, Corey Monson, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Helen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place N.W., Rochester, MN 55901. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Memorials are suggested to the Mayo Clinic for medical research.
