CHAN Doctor Carl Warren Chan passed away last Tuesday, the 22nd of August, 2017, at the far too early age of sixty-four. Even at the end, his tenacity showed through as he fought to survive for half an hour. He was taken care of by his wife, two sons, and countless friends. Some of the most extraordinary among his friends are Michael and Sharon Lin, and Doctor Jeff Strommen, whose incredible kindness and care will never be forgotten. Carl was a world renowned doctor at the Mayo Clinic, so exceptional at his job that he pioneered many new pain management techniques. Despite his immense talent and position, he was most impressive for his outstanding character; he was generous, kind, wickedly smart, and had a childlike trust in everyone to be the best they could. He lived a life of no regrets, and always did as he pleased, which thankfully was more often than not to the benefit of those who knew him. Despite his far too early departure from this world, Carls kindness and generosity made an everlasting impact on all who had the privilege of meeting him. Whether you knew him or not, the world is an emptier place without him, and he will be missed and loved by everyone who knew him. He was known by his family as Sir, Carl, Overlord, and, lovingly, Old Hound. We miss you and love you Overlord, and well always do our best to honor your memory and make you proud. A service will be held 10:30 a.m. August 30, 2017 at the Church of Saint John the Evangelist, 11 4th Ave. SW, Rochester. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service.
