Dennis L. Sandvik, 87, died peacefully at his home on Friday, November 7, 2014. Dennis Lester Sandvik was born January 15, 1927 to Harry and Helen (Schneider) Sandvik in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School. Dennis served in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Gadwell, a mine sweeper in the Pacific Theater. He owned and operated a painting and decorating business in Minneapolis. Dennis and his family moved to Rochester, MN and he worked at Mayo Clinic for many years as the supervisor of the paint shop. He was a Mason, and a Shriner with the Zuhrah Shrine Temple in Minneapolis. Dennis was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rochester. Dennis loved spending time with his family, friends, and all of the family pets. Dennis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gretchen Sandvik, Rochester, MN; his two sons, Steven (Kelley) Sandvik, Grand Meadow, MN and Paul (Lisa) Sandvik, Plymouth, MN; his 3 grandchildren, Benjamin (Kate) Sandvik, Emiley Sandvik, and Miah Sandvik; 2 great grandchildren, Charlie and Gavin Sandvik. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Hillman Karbo, brother John Sandvik, and sisters Frances Johnson and Harriet Billman. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochester, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Season's Hospice or Paws and Claws.
