DeLaine O. Foster passed away Thursday, September 20, at Madonna Towers Living Community of Rochester. She was 101 years old. DeLaine was born February 27, 1917, in Roseau, Minnesota, to Frank and Ella Krause. She spent much of her adult life in Mankato, Minnesota where she married Mickey Date in 1936. Mickey was Sheriff of Blue Earth County when he died suddenly in 1952 leaving DeLaine with their two small children. She served out his term as the only female sheriff in Minnesota. After leaving office, she married Alfred Knaub and assisted him as Blue Earth County Court Reporter until his death in 1970. DeLaine later married Russell Foster in 1976. They spent much of their retirement life in Rochester at Lake Washington and traveling nationally and abroad. After his death in 1989 DeLaine moved to Rochester to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. She moved to Madonna Towers in 2014 and spent her remaining years in their loving care. DeLaine is survived by daughter Janice (Dick) Westerlund of Rochester, son Mike (Judy) Date of Boise, Idaho, grandchildren Erik, Blake, Christopher, and great-grandchildren Beck, Madia, Sam, and Ted. Stepchildren via her marriage to Russell Foster are Colleen, Nancy, Mary Ann, Lee, and Sheila. She is also survived by her special friend Lucianne Charvelle. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, September 25, 11:00 a.m., at Madonna Towers Chapel. All friends of DeLaine's are invited.
