Dean H. Hoglund, age 69, unexpectedly died on June 19, 2013 in Byron. Dean was born in Cambridge, MN on March 18, 1944 to J. Axel and Emma (Lindgren) Hoglund.He grew up on a farm and attended Cambridge High School where he excelled in basketball and football.He attended the University of MN, Duluth on a football scholarship. Following graduation Dean began his 36 year social work career in Pine Co. MN and became employed in Olmsted County Community Services in 1970 retiring in 2001.Prior to his retirement Dean was part of the noon hour card club where the super hearts games became legendary.During retirement he still enjoyed playing cards with the group. On September 5, 1970 Dean married Cynthia S. Mehl in Pine City, MN. Dean was a Vikings and Timberwolves fan and an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing.Every fall for the past 35 years, Dean enjoyed annual hunting trips to Wyoming or Canada and most of his weekends included hunting or fishing.He was an active member of the Byron Sportsman & Conservation Club and currently was serving as treasurer.Dean also was proud of his restored red 1951 Chevy pickup. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cindy and two daughters, Melissa (John) Hines of Coon Rapids and Kristin of Rochester and five much loved grandchildren, Quincee, Madison, Avery and Hannah Hines and Elajah Plese.He is also survived by three sisters, Alice H. McKee of Bakersfield, CA, marge (Ray) Daniels of Elk River, MN, and Ruth (Wil) Nordin of Elk River, MN; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant brothers; and his big brother, Bob who was his hunting mentor; and one sister, Dorothy Peterson. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes with visitation one hour prior to the service.Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be suggested to Gift of Life Transplant House and Byron Sportsman and Conservation Club.
