David R. Fanning, age 81, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at his home. David was born August 21, 1934 to David H. and Rebecca Fanning in Rochester. He served in the U.S. Navy towards the end of the Korean War and for several years afterwards. When he got out of the Navy, he spent the rest of his life until retirement as a glazier, working for Pittsburgh Place Glass Company and Hentges Glass Company in Rochester. He also worked for some years in Minneapolis, returning to Rochester where he lived the remainder of his life. In March 1955, David and Karen Trelstad were married. They had two children Richard Allen and Cristine Lynn. He had a lifelong love of hunting, fishing and he enjoyed the outdoors and nature. He owned a cabin in Northern Saskatchewan for about 25 years and enjoyed trips up there every year with his family and friends. Dave had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories about his Navy days and his experiences hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed the company his beloved cats. Dave had a deep love for his family and grandchildren. He was a wonderful grandfather to Katie and Lauren. Dave was ill during the last years of his life, but he had tremendous strength and courage through it all. We love you Dave; be at peace. Dave is survived by his daughter, Cristine (Jeff) Swantko; granddaughters, Katie and Lauren; several nieces and nephews and Daves ex-wife, Karen who was his companion and care giver the past 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard; four sisters, Kathleen, Barbara, Edith and Delores; and three brothers, Robert, Edward and George.
