David H. Ellefson A memorial service for David H. Ellefson, 78, of Rochester will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester. Visitation will be Wednesday, February, 13, 2019 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. David Herman Ellefson was born on March 29, 1940 in Rochester, MN to Herman and Mabel (Peck) Ellefson. After a long battle with cancer and a recent stroke, he died on February 7, 2019 at Rochester Methodist Hospital. David graduated from Rochester High School. He attended Rochester Community College and graduated from Winona St. University. David was a computer programmer for IBM. He started in 1965 and retired in 1997 after 32 years of service. On January 11, 1964, he married Charlotte (Char) Brown in Rochester. David was a 60+ year member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder and usher. He was on the Foundation Board at Samaritan Bethany and volunteered at Community Food Response. He enjoyed the monthly get-togethers with "The Card Club" for 45 years. He loved traveling, including many trips to Kona, Hawaii and Holland America Cruises. He was a charter member of the Rochester Coin Club and collected coins and paper money. He was also an avid collector of vintage sports memorabilia and enjoyed golfing and bowling. Survivors include his wife, Char of Rochester; son, Scott Ellefson of Urbandale, IA; two step-granddaughters; four step-great grandchildren; sister, Barb (Gary) Karau of Rochester; sister-in-law, Joan Brown of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, son, Todd; sister, Margie Creech; daughter-in-law, Terri Hannam and brother-in-law, Robert (Larry Brown). Memorials can be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Samaritan Bethany or Donor's Choice. The family would like to thank the Mayo doctors and caregivers for the wonderful care Dave received. A special thank you to Dr. Marvin Vaughn and Dr. Rahma Warsame who were with him from the beginning of his cancer diagnosis in 2016.
