David Duane Thorpe

David D. Thorpe, 79, of Rochester, MN died Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Saint Marys Hospital. David Duane Thorpe was born July 9, 1940 to Roy and Sylvia (Crown) Thorpe in Rochester, MN. He graduated from Pine Island High School in 1959. He attended Rochester Community College for 2 years, graduating in 1960. On September 23, 1960 he married Helen Meyers in Oronoco, MN. He started working for IBM in 1960, where he worked for 36 years. He also worked at Celestica from 2000-2003. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Rochester. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and outdoor games. During the summer he enjoyed visiting Lake of the Woods and then going to Texas in the winter. David is survived by his wife, Helen of Rochester, MN; children, Terri (Tom) Anderson of Winona, MN, Jeff (Debbie) Thorpe of Byron, MN and Mary (Mike) Robinson of Elgin, MN; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Judy) Thorpe of Zumbrota, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roy; and one sister, Geraldine. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901) on Thursday, June 25, 2020. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery. Safety guidelines and masks will be required for all services.
