Darlene Olson

Darlene J. Olson, age 85, of Rochester, MN passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 25, 2016, in the arms of her family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Karna Hagen Moskalik officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gift of Life Transplant House, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Seasons Hospice. She was born on June 23, 1931 in Fargo, ND to Joseph and Signe (Johnson) Larson. Signe passed away shortly after giving birth, and later Joe married Lou Nieman. Darlene graduated from Moorhead High School in 1950. She married Marvin L. Olson also of Moorhead, MN on May 31, 1953. She followed the love of her life from Moorhead to St. Louis Park, and later moved to Rochester in 1961. Darlene cared for Marv for over 20 years during his illness until he died in October 1990. Darlene was employed by JC Penneys in Rochester for over 30 years and retired in 2005. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and later Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where she volunteered and was involved in Ladies Circle. She enjoyed gardening and looked forward to meeting with Fridays coffee group. Darlene had a great love for her family and often attended her grandchildrens activities. Darlene is survived by the four Js, Jim (Kathy) Olson, Jan Yocom, Jon (Diane) Olson, Julie (Jeff) Gorman all in the Rochester area; grandchildren, Angie Foster, Emily (Nick) Fuller, Scott Olson, Joshua (Devon) Yocom, Jenny (Ben) Beighley, Sam and Joe Olson, Megan (Michael) Radosovich, Jay (fiance, Brittini) Gorman, Hannah Burkholder; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Renee Bexell of Park Rapids, MN; brother, Don Larson of Detroit Lakes, MN. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her mother, Signe; her father, Joe and step-mother, Lou.
