Darie "D.A." Anfind Lavoi

Darie D.A. Anfind LaVoi, 78, of Fosston, MN died on Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born in Fosston, MN on October 28, 1936 to parents, Lawrence and Clara (Ness) LaVoi. He attended elementary school through High School in Fosston, MN and graduated from Bemidji State Teachers College in 1960.He began his teaching career in Crookston, MN and Grand Forks, North Dakota.In 1967 he moved to Rochester, MN and taught art in Rochester Public Schools until his retirement.Darie loved teaching children and he was well loved by his students. Darie was a member of the Minnesota National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis.After his retirement, Darie moved to Fosston to care for his ailing mother until her death. Darie was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Connie Amundson and brother-in-law, Mel Amundson of Minneapolis, MN.He leaves to mourn three sons, Daren LaVoi of Minneapolis, MN, Lauren LaVoi of Rochester, MN and Dana (Kelly) LaVoi of Chicago, Ill; three grandchildren, Josie, Luke and Ryan LaVoi of Rochester, MN and one nephew, Tim (Sheila) Amundson of Minneapolis, MN and many dear friends and relatives. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Burial will be at Kingo Cemetery in Fosston, MN at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family or a charity of your choice.
