Daniel "Dan" J. Schnell

Daniel "Dan" J. Schnell, 78, of Rochester, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Samaritan Bethany on 8th in Rochester. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. The visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, July 9, 2018, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood East Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the donor's choice. Dan was born on February 17, 1940, in Fond du Lac, WI, to Ernest and Eloise (Kinsley) Schnell. From 1954-1958, he attended and graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in Fon Du Lac, WI. Dan entered into the United States Navy in 1958, and was honorably discharged in 1962. At the Naval Station Great Lakes, he completed basic training and hospital core school and was assigned to the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center. From 1962-1965, Dan attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield, WI. From 1965-1967, he went to Mayo Clinic School of Anesthesiology. Dan worked for the Mayo Clinic - St. Marys Hospital as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - (CRNA) from 1967-1971. In 1971, he was promoted to the supervisor of CRNA's in the general multi-specialty and trauma practice where he retired in 2005. Dan is survived by his three sons, Mark Schnell of Rochester, Jeff Schnell (fiancé Sarah Kraft) and Mike Schnell (Tracy), both of Byron; grandchildren, Austin, Nicholas, Abigail, Jackson, Rylie and Payton; brother, Richard (Joni) Schnell of Fond du Lac, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; brother, David, and sister, Sandi Schmidt. Arrangements are with Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place N.W., Rochester, MN 55901.
