Christopher Pa Chou Herr, age 63, passed away on July 6th, 2024 in St. Paul, MN.
Cib Xyooj and Tsom Her, grandparents to Christopher, lived in Laos where his mother Chia Vang(Her) married Kia Pao Her and gave birth to Christopher Herr on November 2, 1960 in the village of Nam Tuang of Xiengkhouang, Laos. His family had a total of 12 siblings. Of the 12 siblings 8 of them passed due to disease and 3 are still living, the oldest sibling Nhia Ge Her, sister N. Txav Jandua Chang, youngest brother Chong La Her. They fled to Thailand in 1975 and resided in refugee camp NhongKhai, Thailand due to the Vietnam war (Secret War). In August of 1976 they immigrated to the United States. They arrived in Illinois and relocated to Des Moines, Iowa. In 1984 he moved to Rochester, Minnesota. Christopher married Maiyia V. Herr in 1988 and had 4 children. First born Joshua Herr, second Mary Herr, third Jordan Herr and 4th Melody Herr.
Christopher received his Associate's Degree at Indian Hill Community College and attended the University of Northern Iowa, he went on to study architecture.
In his life, he became a pillar in his community working with IMAA as an interpreter helping new immigrant families. For over 5 years he led troop 116 of the boy scouts. His family was a large part of planting Rochester Hmong Baptist Church, still active in Minnesota. During his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors such as bird watching, hunting, fishing, and soccer. His favorite thing to do was build model airplanes and fly them with his grandchildren. He cherished every moment with his family.
Christopher will be deeply missed by his children Josh, Mary, Jordan, and Melody; his grandchildren Joseph, Jaden, and Jacey; his brothers Nhia Ge Her and Chong La Her; His sister N. Txav Jandua Chang, and his many friends who were like family.
Services will be held at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901) on August 2nd from 1 pm-8pm and August 3rd from 9am-2pm. Interment will follow Saturday's service at Oakwood Cemetery (38 7th Ave NE, Rochester, MN 55906).
