Charlie Barlow

October 23, 1923 — July 11, 2020

Charlie R. Barlow was born October 23, 1923 in Fayetteville, Georgia to the late Charles and Maddie Barlow. He had three siblings: Austell, Mable, and Eugene, all of whom predeceased him. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1941 and married his high school sweetheart Helen who preceded him in death after 65 years of marriage. Their union produced five children: Carol L. Smith (Douglas deceased); Dr. Charles W. Barlow, deceased (Yette); Janies Barlow-Alexander (Carroll); Jukabiea Barlow deceased, (Melissa) and Don Barlow (Teresa deceased). He was a beloved Grandfather to 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Pastor Barlow was an avid reader and had a love of history. A bedtime ritual of reading poetry and other forms of literature to his children established the value of education. He was proud to witness four of his children receive BAs, MAs, and Ph.Ds. He had 33 years of combined military and federal service serving in the Philippines, Korea, California, and Alaska. He later became Pastor of St. John Baptist Church in Fairbanks, Alaska serving for 27 years until he and his wife, Helen, returned to Fayetteville, Georgia. In 2016, he relocated from Georgia to Rochester, Minnesota to live with his son, Don Barlow. Pastor Charlie R. Barlow peacefully departed this life Saturday, July 11, 2020.
