Funeral services for Charlene Van Oort, 81, of Rochester will be at 11:00am on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Rochester Covenant Church. Visitation will be on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5:00 8:00pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood East Cemetery. Charlene Wirsing was born on December 11, 1934 in Sioux City, IA to Stephen and Grace (McLean) Wirsing. She died on November 28, 2016 at her home. Charlene graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1953. On August 22,1953 she married Jay Van Oort and the couple lived in Iowa and Washington before moving to Rochester in 1959. She worked as the Deputy Olmsted County Treasurer, retiring in 1994. Charlene was a member of Rochester Covenant Church. She enjoyed skiing, golfing, reading, crocheting and playing Bridge. She enjoyed spending the winters in Casa Grande, AZ. She loved her family and crocheted afghans for all the grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Jay of Rochester; children, Steve (Sue) and Craig (Carol), both of Rochester and Karen Hicks (Calvin) of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richard and Karl. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers by check to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development in memory of Charlene Van Oort for arteritis research and treatment.
