Funeral services for Carl L. Jahn Jr, age 89 of Rochester will be at 11:00am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Zumbro Lutheran Church.Visitation will be from 5:00 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will be at Spring Valley Cemetery. Carl Lowell Jahn Jr. was born on March 28, 1926 in Spring Valley, MN to Carl and Alma (Jeche) Jahn Sr.He died on November 1, 2015 at Shorewood Senior Living in Rochester. Carl graduated from Spring Valley High School and received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Luther College in Decorah, IA.He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 and entered the European Theater shortly after basic training in March of 1945.He was in the 11th armored division tank battalion and was instrumental in holding the Bridge at Remagan and continuing the push of Nazi Germany back across the Rhein River. Carl worked for First National Bank and later retired from Mayo Clinic as the payroll manager after 37 years.Carl married Erlyne Hanson on June 15, 1952 in Minot, ND. Carl enjoyed woodworking, traveling, fishing, golfing and bowling.He was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church and he and his wife were Mayo Clinic Auxiliary Volunteers for 15 years.He enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ and spending time with his family and friends at the river in Lake City. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Jahn of Houston, TX and Jeffrey (Lisa) Jahn of Plymouth, MN, one daughter, Janelle (Neal) Albee of Wyoming, MN; six grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher and Jacob Albee, Allison, Maggie and Erin Jahn; one sister, Velma Wayne of Ellendale, MN and two brothers, Vernon (Sharon) Jahn of Minneapolis, MN and James (Jean) Jahn of Reads Landing, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Mayo Clinic Department of Development, 200 1st St. SW, Rochester, MN55905, in memory of Carl Jahn to support Out Patient Volunteer Services, or to Luther College Decorah, IA.
