Burton Curtis Patchin, 85, of Rochester, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 19, 2014. Bert was born June 13, 1929 in Rock Dell to Lester and Pearl (Boysen) Patchin. Bert was a lifelong resident of Rochester. He attended Rochester Public Schools and then proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army, serving in Korea. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal and 2 Bronze Service Stars. Bert was a freight hauler for Admiral Merchants Freight Company for 24 years and then was a warehouse worker and truck driver for the former Reynolds Wholesale Company for 13 years. He was also a bus driver for Rochester Public Schools and most recently a crossing guard with the schools. Bert was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Rochester VFW, Stewartville American Legion, Rochester Eagles and the Star Singles Square Dance Club. Bert was also a member of the Whitewater Whirlers in Dover and the Silver Treads Square Dancing Club at the Rochester Senior Center. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling and enjoying time out with family and friends. Bert is survived by his children, Karen (Bill) Wilson of Mexico, MO., Marilyn (Roland) Kaehler of Dover, Betty (David) Karsten of Stewartville, Darlene (Gary) Huss of Faribault; 7 grandchildren, Sheri (Paul) Zumsteg, Sara (Brian) Neal, Becky (Jason) Eckerle, Tonia (Mike) Stevens, Travis (Abbie) Kaehler, Jeremy (Chandra) Karsten, Jessica Karsten;14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Frank) Yeadon of Stewartville, Jean (Lyle) Bemmert of Rochester and special friend Carol Steffenson of Rochester. Bert was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Ardella Bamlet, Bernice Cogswell, Genevieve Rother, Lucille Barrone; 1 brother, Jim Patchin and his parents, Lester and Pearl. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 810 3rd Ave. SE., Rochester. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM Monday, December 22, 2014 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW., Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Anjanette Bandel will be officiating with interment at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
