Bruce Lane Swanson, age 71, died unexpectedly on February 25th, 2015 at his home in Rochester. Born on October 29, 1943, Bruce grew up on the family farm near New Effington, South Dakota. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College, where he studied accounting. Upon his graduation in 1965, Bruce attended graduate school, enlisted in the Army and was eventually stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he served as an officer. Bruce married Ann Kristin Johnson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in December of 1966. After his discharge from the military, Bruce and Ann moved to Minneapolis, where Bruce became a Certified Public Accountant and took a position with Price-Waterhouse.In 1977, Bruce and his family moved to Rochester where Bruce continued his career as a highly respected CPA. Additionally, Bruce was an active member and executive board member of Zumbro Lutheran Church, The Rotary Club of Greater Rochester, and volunteered his time and skills to many local non-profit organizations, including the Rochester Senior Center, where he served on the board. Outside of work, Bruce was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. Sadly, Ann passed away in 2009, but Bruce was twice blessed; he met Janet Wollin through Zumbro Lutheran Church where they were married in 2011.Janet and Bruce enjoyed entertaining at their home and spending time with their respective families. Bruce was preceded in death by parents Axel and Signe Swanson; sisters Phyllis Weinkauf and Eleanor Mitchel; and first wife Ann Kristin Swanson. He is survived by wife Janet and the children of his first marriage, son Eric Swanson of Rochester and daughter Molly Swanson (Greg Heslin) of Andover, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Kaia and Celyn Heslin; sister Delores Johnson (Carl) of Cottonwood, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews; and Janet's sons Ryan, Spencer, Evan, Hunter and Brennan and their spouses. Bruce will be greatly missed and mourned by all who knew him. Services will be held at Zumbro Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 3rd at 11:00 am, with a reviewal one hour prior to the service. Relatives and friends are also welcome to attend a reviewal at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral home on Monday, March 2nd from 5:00-7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Zumbro Lutheran Church.
