Ms. Beverly A. Livesay, 96, a former John Marshall teacher, died December 12, 2024 at Edenbrook of Rochester.
Beverly Ann was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on March 23, 1928. She grew up in Jamestown, where she graduated from Jamestown College. Later, she took further training at the following universities: North Dakota; Wisconsin; Colorado; and London, England. From 1950 - 1957, she taught vocal music and English in Parshall; Velva; and Devils Lake, North Dakota.
In 1958, Beverly moved to Rochester, MN where she taught Alienation; English Explorations; Musical Theater and Shakespeare. She also served as the head advisor for the John Marshall Girls' Club for 17 years. On June 8, 1987, she retired from teaching.
Her interests were many. For example, at Christ United Methodist Church, she was a long time member of its Chancel choir. For over seventeen years, she also served as a liaison for Christ United Methodist Church to Community Food Response. In addition, for many years, she was a member of its Senior Fellowship.
In the community, she participated in the Foreign Policy Division of AAUW; in the Kiwanis Day Makers; in the Rochester Civic Theater and in the Rochester Symphony Chorale.
She loved to volunteer. For several years, she served at Channel One. For over ten years, as a member of the Mayo Clinic Volunteer Services, she gave directions in the Mayo Subway, and later served in both Infusion and Radiation. As a member of the Rochester Methodist Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers, she served as a desk worker for over thirty-one years. She also led tours for the Rochester Community Technical College Elderhostel Program. In addition, for many years, she led group singing and played the piano for residents in several nursing homes.
An avid traveler, she also had other special interests such as attending concerts; plays and sports events. In addition, she enjoyed reading; scrapbooking and gardening.
After her retirement, she joined Rochester Area Retired Educators; Southeastern Retired Education Association of Minnesota; and Retired Educators Association of Minnesota. In 2006, she received both the SEREAM and REAM Educator Awards for outstanding community service.
Beverly would like you to celebrate her life by directing a memorial to one of the following that were dear to her heart: John Marshall High School (for English or Vocal Music Scholarship), Hope Lodge (for cancer patients' needs), the Good Samaritan Fund (through the RMH Auxiliary Volunteers), Kiwanis Day Makers (for its youth programs), Christ United Methodist Church Senior Fellowship (for AFS Missions, or for special music concerts).
