A memorial service for Beverly Elaine (nee Terwilliger) Thoma will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Charter House Chapel in Rochester with the Reverends Jay Rowland and Rachael Hanson officiating. Burial will take place in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Thoma, 97, of Rochester, died January 13, 2018 at the Charter House. She was born on July 31, 1920 in West Allis, Wisconsin. She graduated from Marquette University in 1942 and was one of two women in her class to earn a B.S degree in chemistry and math. She worked as a chemist for Seagrams in Louisville, Kentucky, and later as a chemist in the research department at Allis Chalmers in West Allis, Wisconsin. On July 26, 1947, she married William Thoma in West Allis. They moved to Rochester in the fall of 1956. Beverly volunteered for the Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, YMCA, and YWCA. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, American Chemical Society, American Association of University Women, and the PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed traveling the world, making and teaching ceramics, gardening, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and doing puzzle books. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Thoma. She is remembered by her nieces Carol Thoma of St. Petersburg, Florida, Christine Thoma and her husband, Lee Rosenberg and grand nephew and grandniece Emily and Noah Rosenberg of Minneapolis, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Charter House, First Presbyterian Church or donor's choice. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home of Rochester is in charge of the arrangements.
