Betty Ellen (nee Stiller) Markham, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, February 10, 2014 at Seasons Hospice. Betty was born July 31, 1932 in rural Pine Island to Arthur and Ella (Loos) Stiller. She attended Pine Island schools. On January 11, 1951, Betty married Bernard Markham in Pine Island. She was employed by the State Hospital of Minnesota in Rochester and Cambridge as an LPN until her retirement in 1990. At that time she volunteered for the Hospice program at Cambridge and Southeast Minnesota Area on Aging in Rochester. Betty and Bernard traveled out of state volunteering for church building with The Builders for Christ (WELS). Betty was a member of Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rochester. She enjoyed needlework, baking, reading, flower gardening and watching birds. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Bernard; daughters, Sandra (John) Rogness of Oronoco, Kathleen DeRaad of Rochester; grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Rogness and Nick (Jen) Rogness; great-grandchildren, Max, Evelyn, Anna and Erin and by her sister, Barbara Smallbrock. Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth, Joyce and Dolores and by her parents, Arthur and Ella. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2207 11th Ave. SE, Rochester. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM Thursday until the time of the service at the church. Pastor Brian Kom will be officiating with interment at Oronoco Cemetery.
