Funeral services for Bernice L. Lichty, 86,of Spring Valley, Minnesota will be at 2:30 pm, Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester, Minnesota with the Reverend Jeff Utecht officiating.Burial will be at 1:00pm at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, with the service to follow at 2:30pm at the church. Bernice Leona Mensink was born on July 14, 1925 in York Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota to Leland and Hazel (Bessingpas) Mensink.She died on November 12, 2011 at the Spring Valley Care Center. Bernice attended Spring Valley area schools and she married Russell Lichty on February 12, 1944 in the Cherry Grove E.U.B. Church.They farmed in Fillmore and Olmsted County where she was a farm wife and homemaker.She also worked at the Olmsted Community Hospital as a cook, retiring in 1989. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 57 years who passed away on June 13, 2001.She remained on the farm until February 2009 when she moved to Spring Valley Senior Living. Bernice is survived by two sons, Richard (Barbara) of Rochester, Lyndon (Cynthia) of Litchfield, and one daughter, Janice (James E. Earley) of Fountain; four grandchildren, James (Rachel) Earley of Wykoff, Julene (Steve) Vrieze of Hanover, Steven (Dori) Lichty of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Stacy (Chad) Bohn of Cosmos, Minnesota; six great grandchildren, Lisa, Valerie and Erica Earley; Avery and Logan Vrieze, and Vivian Lichty; and one sister, Eleanor (Arnold Crary) of Plainview, Minnesota.
