Bernice Askvig, 93, of Pine Island, formerly of Byron, died peacefully and pain free under the kind and loving care of the wonderful staff at Seasons Hospice House. Bernice was born August 13, 1926 in Byron to Lee and Ethel (Shatt) Johnson. On November 10, 1956, Bernice married Jim Askvig. Bernice loved taking bus trips with her friends, playing cards, especially 500 and her weekly breakfasts with friends. She was a kind hearted woman that was always there to help others. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son, Tim; grandson, Josh; sister, Ruth and by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Rusty) Carlson and by her son, Steve Askvig; grandchildren, Shawna, Ashley and Colt Askvig; five great grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild, and by her Evergreen Place family. Words cannot express the deep appreciation and gratitude to the wonderful care that she received from Patty, Lucy, Amy Jo, Joann, Rosemary, and everyone at the house. A celebration of Bernice's life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be held at Pine Island Cemetery, Pine Island, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice, The Salvation Army or to The Ronald McDonald House in memory of Bernice.
