Beatrice Vold, better known to her family and friends as "June," passed away at St. Mary's Hospital from natural causes on Wednesday, July 24th. She had turned 96 on June 7, 2019 celebrating with her family at Madonna Towers. June was born in Schenectady, New York on June 7, 1923, to her parents, Mary Pamela (Pauquette) and Edwin Joseph Joyal. As a child, her family moved to Tupper Lake in the Adirondack Mountains in New York and then to New York City. She became a nanny after school working in the city before the family moved back up to the Adirondacks right after World War II. While living with her parents there she worked at the Stony Wald Sanitorium where she met her future husband, Oivind Vold of Skjeberg, Norway. After the war they moved to Minnesota and settled in Rochester, married at Bethel Lutheran Church on November 29, 1952 and raised their family of two girls. June was an accomplished seamstress and, among other creative projects, sewed many costumes for the Rochester Ballet School. She knitted both by hand and machine creating many beautiful pieces for her far-reaching family and friends. Her needlepoint and cross-stitched pictures won awards at the local and state fair. Her family has many cherished creations "Made by Grandma." For many years June was the bookkeeper and consigner at the Elderberry Gift Shop at the Senior Citizens' Center while it was located at the "Castle." She and her husband were active long-time members of Bethel Lutheran Church and as life-time members of the local Sons of Norway Lodge. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oivind Vold, her parents, Mary Pamela and Edwin Joyal, her sisters, Camille Captain, Vivian Palazola, Eva Joyal, her brothers, Ronald Joyal and Frank Joyal, and nephew, John Joyal and niece, Holly Joyal. June is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Randy) Ristow, Bismarck, ND, and Mona (Rick) Keehn, Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Brian (Paula) Keehn, Erin (Colin) Chester, Alex (Ashley) Keehn, all of Rochester, MN, and Matt (Ashley) Ristow, Bismarck, ND; nieces, Mary Pamela Captain, Rochester, MN and Maria Joyal, Liverpool, NY; nephews, George (Skip) Captain, Santa Fe, NM, Ron (Yvonne) Joyal, Jefferson, NC, and Teddy (Holly) Joyal, Little River, SC, and her much loved ten great-grandchildren. The family wishes to especially thank the caring and thoughtful staff at Madonna Towers for their friendships and excellent care of "June Bug," and also the excellent doctors, nurses and other attendants at Saint Marys Hospital. She is Beloved by her family. A Memorial service will be held at Madonna Towers Chapel, 4001 19th Ave. NW, Rochester, MN, Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:00 am.
