Barbara J. Burgess

Barbara J. Burgess age 83, of Rochester, died on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at The Homestead in Rochester. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes with Pastor Tony Deach officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 p.m on Thursday, August 13, 2015, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Christ Community Church or Ability Building Center, Inc. at 1911 14th St. NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Barbara Joan Ochampaugh was born on August 24, 1931, in Chicago, IL. She attended Parker High School in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1950. After high school Barbara worked for Swift and Company as a secretary in Chicago from February 1, 1950, to September 10, 1959. She married Rex L. Burgess on September 12, 1959, in Chicago, they were married for 36 years. They moved to Rochester in 1972, from Wilson, NC. Rex died on August 18, 1996. Barbara was a member of Christ Community Church. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Hick of Cockermouth, England, Karen Burgess of Carmel, IN, Kitty (Tracy) Stromgren of Glenwood, IA and Kandia (Bob) Hegland of Cook, MN; grandchildren, Emily Hick, Talon and Shaelee Stromgren; sisters, Melanie (Jim) Morgan of Reno, NV and Paula Sosenheimer of Fort Wayne, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; mother and stepfather; father; sister and brother. The family of Barbara would like to thank The Homestead at Rochester staff and Mayo Hospice for their loving and dedicated care for their mother.
