Barbara Broin

Barbara Joyce (Himle) Broin, 88, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Cottagewood Senior Community.

Barb was born July 20, 1935 in Vernon Township, Dodge County, MN the daughter of Arnold and Myrtle (Senjem) Himle. She graduated from Hayfield High School. Barb was united in marriage to Harland Broin on October 26, 1957 at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church. In her younger years she worked for Waters Conley as an administrative assistant and later for Evenson's Hallmark at Apache Mall.

Barb was a gentle, soft spoken, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family and friends. She hosted numerous family gatherings and was an excellent baker and cook. Barb enjoyed card club, morning coffee at Hy-Vee with friends, and attending flea markets where she collected antiques, toothpick holders, Red-Wing pottery and glassware. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Barb and Harland enjoyed traveling together. They visited Norway, Alaska and Hawaii. In retirement, they spent winters in the western part of the United States visiting friends and family. She enjoyed the activities and friendships that she made through the Red Hat Society. Barb and Harland were long-term members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Brian) Maghan of Shorewood, MN, Scott Broin of Chanhassen, MN, Sharon (Rod) Morris of Rochester; grandchildren, Cally (Taylor) Bunne, Ashley (Chris) Hanson, Lindsey (Jon) Lehmann and Brent Maghan and great-grandchildren, Carson and Mason Bunne, Aria and Caleb Hanson and Eleanor Lehmann. Barb is also survived by her brother, Larry (Diane) Himle of Hayfield, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Myrtle Himle; husband, Harland; grandson, Justin Broin; brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Delores Himle.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1212 12th Ave. NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. The Rev. Hayden Kvamme will be officiating with burial at West St. Olaf Cemetery.
