Avis E. Sperling

ROCHESTER -Avis E. Sperling, 78, died on Sunday, June 10, 2012 surrounded by her family at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Avis was born in Devils Lake, ND on May 8, 1934 to Howard and Gladys (Lien) Sandum.She married Dave Sperling on April 22, 1956 at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester.Avis was very active at Zumbro Lutheran Church throughout her life.Her life revolved around faith, family, and fellowship. She had an optimistic outlook on life that affected all those around her and was an expert in the use of humor to lighten the burden of others. Avis is survived by six children, Steven (Shelley) Sperling, of Rochester, Kathy (Fred) Kelson, of Eagan, MN, Sarah Sperling, of Rochester, Paul (Samantha) Sperling, of Brooklyn Park, MN, Eric Sperling, of Minneapolis, and Mark Sperling, of Andover, MA; nine grandchildren, and two brothers, Howard Sandum, of Madison, WI, and James (Aggie) Sandum, of Macungie, PA. Avis is preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her parents; and her sister, Beatrice. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Zumbro Lutheran Church, 624 3rd Ave. SW.Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church.Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to Zumbro Lutheran Choir or Seasons Hospice.
