Arthur Wayne Magruder, age 73, of Rochester, MN, died October 19, 2018, at his home after a lengthy battle with heart failure. He was born on January 21, 1945, in Brush, Colorado (Morgan County). On November 1, 1966, he joined the Rochester Police Department and retired on July 31, 1999 as a captain. During his childhood he enjoyed searching for Native American artifacts. Upon retirement he had more time to pursue his passion of Native American stone tools and became interested in replicating these stone tools with similar techniques and creativity of the Native people (the art of flintknapping). Art and his wife, Sandy, adopted a rescue dog, Maggie, on January 26, 2010. Art and Maggie were constant companions; walking around the pond every day, running errands or sitting in the recliner together. Maggie was able to lay beside Art after he passed to spend quiet time with him for one last time. He was an avid reader and golfer. The family wants to thank the Mayo Clinic Hospice for their amazing support in the final days. Also, we will be forever grateful to a Mayo Clinic Nurse Practitioner who guided us through the last 8 ½ years. Art is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandy; three sons, Mike (Gloria) Magruder of Zumbro Falls, Brian Magruder of Minneapolis and Matt Magruder of Rochester; daughter, Christi (Scott) Williams of Shoreview; step-son, Jason Liebenow of Hayfield; and seven grandchildren. A visitation will be from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901.
