Rochester, MN: Anthony (Tony) S. Gikas, 78, died at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Sunday, March 20, 2011. Tony was born March 12, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up in Cherokee, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa. He Served in the US Army as an M.P. From 1955-1957. He moved to Rochester, Mn. He married Helen Chonis on May 18, 1958 at Saints Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester; (now Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church). The couple owned and operated the "Look Nook" across from St. Mary's Hospital for many years. He continued in business with the Gopher Liquor Store, after which he worked at the Radisson Hotel until retiring in 1995. As a young man he played High School Football and he enjoyed playing Fast Pitch Softball. He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the St Louis Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings. He also liked to travel to Las Vegas and play Poker. He was a member of Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church. His wife Helen passed away in 2008. Tony is survived by a son Nicholas A. Gikas, Rochester, MN. And a daughter Michelle (Galen) Kinsley also of Rochester, MN. And a Sister Marika Hochberger in Oxnard, Ca. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother Nicholas Gikas.A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday March 23, 2011 at Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Mark Munoz officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.Visitation will be on Tuesday Evening from 4:00 -7:00P.M at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes with a Trisagion Greek Prayer Service at 7:00P.M.
