Anthony Tony N. Chonis, 74, of Rochester, died Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at his home following a 10 year battle with C.O.P.D. Tony was born September 5, 1938 to Nick Chonis and Agathe Nickoglou in Rochester. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1958.On February 26, 1960 he married Carolyn Prescher. Tony owned and operated the Rainbow Caf across from St. Marys Hospital, which opened 65 years ago by his father.Tony retired in 2006 due to his health. He was a lifelong member of the Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church where he in the past served on the parish council and also looked forward to working at the Annual Greek festival.He was a longtime member of the Eagles Club. Tony is survived by his wife, Carolyn; their three children, Christine (Mark) Olson of Georgia, Nick (Jackie) Chonis of Rochester, and Diane (Dr. George) Ellis of Missouri; four grandchildren, Justin (Jenny) Chonis of Rochester, Kelley (Adam) Ruszczyk of Rochester, Ashley Olson of Georgia and Brock Ellis of Missouri; and three great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Helen Gikas. The funeral for Anthony Chonis will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 at Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, 703 W. Center Street, with the Rev. Father Mark Munos officiating.A visitation will be held from 5:00 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 7 with a 7:00 pm Trisagion Prayer Service at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes.
