Ann Morrill Schultz Rochester ROCHESTER, MINN: Ann M. Schultz, 95, died at Madonna Towers on Friday, January 4, 2013, where she had resided for the past 13 years. She was born on August 2, 1917 to Raymond and Phyllis (Frye) Gray in Minneapolis, MN. Ann graduated from Washburn High School in 1935 and from the University of Minnesota, with honors, in 1939. She taught in the high school at Graceville, Minnesota for one year, then married Robert J. Schultz, also a teacher, June 15, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After their marriage, Ann and Bob lived first in Aitkin, Minnesota, then in Worthington. In 1948, they moved to Rochester, where they raised three daughters. Ann was a homemaker and also a librarian at the Rochester Public Library and Methodist Hospital. She studied violin at MacPhail School of Music for ten years, beginning at age eight, and played in small groups as well as in the Rochester Symphony Orchestra. Ann always enjoyed writing, but it was not until she received a devastating medical diagnosis that she discovered her gift of poetry. Since the publication of her book, "Message in a Bottle" in 2010, her poems have delighted audiences and readers. Ann will be remembered for her love of family, her compassion for others, her strong faith, and her determination to make the best of life's challenges. Ann is survived by two daughters, Janet (Kenneth) Panger and Marilyn (Bruce) Thompson; son-in-law, Andrew Shorter; three grandchildren, Ted (Marcie) Shorter, Dan (Rebecca) Shorter, and Jessica (Evan Bialostozky) Thompson; six great grandchildren, Christopher, Caleb, Merrick, and Margo Shorter, and Samuel and Isaac Bialostozky; and her sister Margaret Hall. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, her daughter Roberta Shorter, and her sister Mary Kelsey. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Madonna Towers Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donors choice.
