Allwyn K. Bakken

Allwyn Kalmer Bakken, 91, of Rochester, died peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Olmsted Community Hospital. Allwyn was born September 8, 1924 in Dexter, MN to Alfred and Mabel Bakken.He was the second of eleven children.On June 27, 1963, he married Shirley Splinter at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester. Allwyn is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Luther (Sokha), Naomi (Quin) Wychanko and Nathan; grandchildren, Lorelei Wychanko and Medora Wychanko; sister, Dorothy Morgan; brothers, Donald (Avonne) Bakken and David (Karen) Bakken; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mabel; infant sister; sisters, Arlida Long, Evangeline Cannell, Elvira Bakken, Mildred Croll and Ruth Boyum; and brother, Everett Bakken. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Nathaniel Schwartz officiating.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.Burial will take place at Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery in Peterson, MN. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the medical team at Olmsted Clinic and to the staff at Olmsted Community Hospital for providing extraordinary care and compassion.Thank you also to the senior Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Nathaniel Schwartz, for his devotions, prayers and guidance.
