Alice Jean Harrison, 92, of Rochester passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Samaritan Bethany. Alice was born July 16, 1922 in Readlyn, IA., the daughter of Delbert and Irene (Miller) Fuhr. She was raised in Tripoli, IA and graduated from the Tripoli High School in 1939. Alice worked for two years at the Waverly Hospital as a nurses aide before beginning her nurses training at St. Joseph's School of Nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Clinton, IA. After completing her nurses training, Alice workedat Schick Army Hospital as an Army Cadet nurse during WWII. Alice met Burton Harrison while working at the Army Hospital and they were united in marriage on November 2, 1946 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Falls, IA. After Alice and Burton were married they returned to rural St. Charles, near the Harrison family farm. Alice began working as a registered nurse at the area nursing home and then ultimately began working at St. Marys Hospital and retiring from Rochester Methodist Hospital on November 30, 1984. Alice was always busy working as a nurse, gardening, and volunteering her time at church in the nursery and helping with funeral lunches. Alice enjoyed reading and attending church and Sunday school at Autumn Ridge Church in Rochester, where she was a member for 49 years. Alice also enjoyed giving and receiving greeting cards and spending her time traveling to many new destinations with family and friends. She received joy in sharing the produce and flowers of her garden with family, friends and neighbors. Alice's memory is honored by her daughters, Carol (Duane) Harms of Woodbury, MN; Marcia (Neil) Jolly of Joliet, IL; and a son, Steven (Donna) Harrison of Maple Grove, MN. She had 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Erik) Hess of Rochester, Lisa (Mike) Dwyer of Pequot Lakes, Lori Harms of Nara, Japan, Eric Harrison of Maple Grove, Erin Harrison Wood of Coon Rapids, Tim (Lynette) Jolly of Minooka, IL., Matt (Joanna) Jolly of Joliet, IL, and 10 great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Bertha Thurs, Georgiana Ohlendorf; 2 brothers in infancy and 1 great grandchild in infancy. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Monday, June 22, 2015 at Timothy Chapel at Autumn Ridge Church, 3611 Salem Rd. SW., Rochester. Visitation will be held 9:00AM until time of the service at the chapel. Interment will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
