Alfred William Grunklee, age 88, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. Al was born in Claremont on January 6, 1931, to parents Alfred and Alma (Schley) Grunklee. He was the youngest of four children. Al graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1948. He served in the Army for two years and then he got a job with IBM in Rochester where he worked until his retirement. He also enjoyed farming at the same time. On January 26, 1957, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline Schauer. Al and Jackie enjoyed a wonderful 62 years of marriage. They raised five children, Mark, Terri, Sandy, Amy and Mike. Al was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy Soukup, Margie Bode and Glodean Marquardt, and daughter Terri. Al is survived by his wife Jackie, four children Mark Grunklee of Rochester, Sandy (Danny) Hanson of Byron, Amy Grunklee of Norwalk, CT and Mike (Holly) Grunklee of Eagan; seven grandchildren Kristy Grunklee, Kelly (Kevin) Behnke, Stacy Hanson, Karlyn (Rolando) Flores, Ryan (Theresa) Hanson, Alex Grunklee and Ava Grunklee and six great grandchildren Rylyn Hanson, Hannah Hanson, Ella Hanson, Cora Grunklee, Aidan Behnke and Declan Behnke. He was excited for one new grandchild and two new great grandchildren that are on their way. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21st, at Christ Lutheran Church, 201 Frontage Road in Byron, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson at a later date. Memorials can be directed to the family which will be used to support the charities that were important to Al.
