ROCHESTER -Aldin Al Fiksdal, 88, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Mayo Clinic - St. Marys Campus. Al was born January 15, 1926 in Alexandria, MN to Emil and Alma (Englund) Fiksdal.He was nurtured in Christian faith at the Swedish Covenant Church and First English Lutheran Church in Alexandria and has been a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester since 1947.He was educated in the Alexandria Public Schools where he excelled in music and band.Like so many others at that time, he joined the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1943 and served in the Pacific Aleutian Island area. Al was discharged on May 23, 1945 from the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA.After the war and recovery time he joined his brothers, Mads and Edward in Rochester and helped establish Fiksdal Flowers across from St. Marys Hospital.Al married Lorraine Snitker on May 3, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).Al enjoyed watching sports and especially enjoyed watching all of his kids and grandkids activities. Al is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lorraine; three children, Stephen Fiksdal, of Minneapolis, Greg (Jenny Jaeger) Fiksdal, of Rochester, and Karen (Tim) Daly, of Rochester; six grandchildren, Eric Fiksdal, of Chicago, Alexander (fiance Sophie Sinclair) Fiksdal, of Rochester, Madeleine Fiksdal, of Minneapolis, Nikita Daly, of Rochester, Christian Fiksdal, of Rochester, and Maia Daly, of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews including Nancy (Charlie) Linville, Gary (Cory) Fiksdal, Glen (Betsy) Fiksdal, June (Jeff) Davis, and Cindy (Wolfgang) Balzer. Al is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Mads, Albin, and Edward; and two sisters, Lillian and Iola. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at Zumbro Lutheran Church, 624 3rd Avenue SW.A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at church.Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the PTSD Foundation of America, Channel One, Dorothy Day House, Habitat for Humanity, or the Salvation Army Adult Daycare.
