Alan L. Speltz

Alan Speltz, 69, of Rochester, MN died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Central Health nursing home in Le Center MN. Alan Leo Speltz was born on December 18th 1945 in Rolling Stone, MN to Gerald and Helen Speltz.He grew up in Rolling Stone, MN on the family farm. In 1964 he graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School. Soon after he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, Alan honorably separated the Coast Guard in 1967 following his father's death. In 1969, Alan married his first wife Janet Kreidermacher of Altura, MN and they were blessed with four children. They later divorced. Throughout his early married life he worked as a lumber salesman in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota. Alan then married Bertha Rosa Vara of Rochester, MN in September of 2007 and gained three stepdaughters Claudia, Jacqueline and Jessica Perez. Alan loved people and had his own special way of connecting with them. Alan was a high energy, gregarious, intelligent and spontaneous individual. Whenever Alan was around people or in social occasions, you could be sure there was plenty of laughter and good humor going on. Alan truly was the life of the party. Alan loved the outdoors, doing things like camping, fishing, horseback riding, pheasant hunting, and coaching his children's soccer team. Other activities he enjoyed were gambling, card games, was a Green Bay fanatic. He had met many of the NFL players and coaches back in the 1970's 80's. He enjoyed doing all these activities with family as well as friends. Alan was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Rochester, MN. He is survived by his children; Mychelle (Don) Henderson of Stewartville, MN; Melissa (Adam) Jones of Cherry Grove, MN; Mark (Jessie) Speltz of Kasson, MN; Maria (Ben) Witter of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Bayli and Bryttin Henderson, Alex, Nicholas, Victoria, Isabella and Elizabeth Jones, Norah Speltz, Layne and Emma Witter; sisters, Carol (George) Meirick ofWhite Bear Lake, MN, Kate (Germaine) Suchla of Racine,WI, Mary Beth (Jerry) Pieper of Ellsworth, WI, Debbie (Vince) Pulles of South Lebanon, OH, Carmen (Alan) Bertelsen of Red Wing, MN and brother, Dennis (Kathy) Speltz of Fountain City, WI.He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Helen Speltz; a brother, Gerald Speltz Jr., sister, Rita Ebert and brother in law, Jerry Ebert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 13, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5455 50th Avenue NW Rochester, MN with Father Tom Loomis officiating.Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #92.
