Alan Ackerman

Alan David Ackerman was born in St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, December 3, 1939 to Minnie (Peg) Graham Ackerman and Archie M. Ackerman. He married Shirley Jean Anderson in 1961 at First Presbyterian Church in Canby, Minnesota. They have four children: Jennifer (Mike Becker) Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jay (Susan) Ackerman Fort Collins, Colorado, Jeffrey Ackerman Stoughton, Wisconsin, Julie Ackerman St. Paul, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: Kasey Ackerman, Alissa Ackerman, Erin Becker (Bastian Uribe-Echevarria Marbach), Derek Gunnarson, Madeline Becker, Amy Ackerman, Matthew Ackerman, Samuel Gunnarson and Leah Ackerman; and one great granddaughter, Chloe McGowan. Al was a lifelong member of Calvary Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir, served as an acolyte and usher, taught Sunday school for fifteen years, served on the Vestry, as both Junior and Senior Warden and served on many church committees. Al was a Master Mason, Past Master of the Lodge (1980), and a member of Scottish Rite. Al retired from IBM Rochester in 1993 after a 30-year career as a mechanical engineer. He enjoyed being a drummer in the Elks Drum Bugle Corps (early 60s), Chatfield Brass Band for many years and the Rochester Community Band. Al was an AARP volunteer tax preparer for many years. Al enjoyed dancing, golf, bridge, all games, boating and time spent with family and friends at the lake cabin in Hayward, Wisconsin. Alan was preceded in death by parents Archie Ackerman and Minnie Graham (Peg) Ackerman, brother James G. Ackerman, and sister-in-law Denise Kidd Ackerman. There will be a funeral service at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
